For this homemade trash costume I went in a more conceptual direction - literal trash, but also trashy trash, i.e. fishnets and smeared lipstick. Our friends went through a period of lovingly calling each other traaaaash! (yeah it's kind of trashy) so I wanted to embody this with a homemade trash costume.

I started by making my dress from one big garbage bag. I first cut the neck hole and created shoulder straps by cinching them with purple gaffer's tape and securing them to the body of the dress with the same tape. Then I made newspaper bows and tied them onto the straps. I cinched the costume in back to give it a more flattering dress-like shape with tape and covered that up with a big bow made from a blue plastic shopping bag.

For the finishing touches I put another bow in my hair made from a plastic shopping bag and wrapped aluminum foil around my waist for a belt. Easy!

To top it off, I made an earring from a bottle cap and a safety pin, and a necklace of grocery bag chains with the top of a beer can as the medallion. I wore torn fishnets over black capri stockings, purple gloves, and for that extra trashy touch smeared some lipstick on with super thick dark eyeliner. I also made sure to act really trashy all night (as you can see by the silly poses in the pics).

All in all, it was the easiest purely homemade costume I've ever made, and for a last minute plan B, it was a smash!

Coolest Homemade Sexy Buzz Lightyear Costume 6

by Saskia
(Montana)

Homemade Sexy Buzz Lightyear Costume

Homemade Sexy Buzz Lightyear Costume

A sexy take on a classic character! I made my very own Buzz Lightyear costume complete with hand painted corset top and retractable wings. That's right, my wings actually work! I rewired some kids toy wings into my corset; hit the button on the front of the corset and the wings go in and out complete with lights and sound. I also added a laser pointer into my glove to act as my "ray gun" just like Buzz Lightyear would have.

The top began with a white store bought corset that I painted with soft fabric paint. This is different from "puff" fabric paint and actually allowed me to mix colors creating shadows and highlights to make it look more realistic. I finished off the costume with a pair of shorts, white fishnets and white heels.

The entire costume probably cost me around $80 when completed (not including the shoes) but has been more than worth it given the response. Definitely my favorite costume ever. To infinity and beyond!

My two sons are currently obsessed with the movie Monster's Inc so my mom and I decided to make them Sulley and Mike Wazowski costumes. For both costumes we used fleece fabric. We matched the colors as close as we could but Sulley's purple spots were hard to find. We ended up using fabric paint and different sized circle stencils to make the spots.

We simply sponge painted them on and let it dry before we cut the fabric. Neither of us are super experienced so we used patterns to guide us in the overall construction of the outfits. For Sulley we used a dragon costume pattern and Mike we used a pumpkin pattern. We altered each one to get them to look like the characters. We used felt for most of the facial features. We also found a plastic hard hat at the local party store and spray painted it blue.
Then we constructed the Monster?s Inc symbol out of felt and hot glued it to the hat. For Mike, I was really lucky to be able to find a shirt and a pair of pants close in color to wear under the costume. They were from the girls department but he will never know.

My sons we super excited to dress up as their favorite characters. I love to call them my little monsters so this Monster's Inc Couple Costume suited them well. Happy Halloween!!

My daughters were in an "Alice in Wonderland" themed dance last summer. We decided to go for the Disney version of Alice and the White Rabbit Costume.

My oldest was the White Rabbit with pieces put together from thrift shop finds and alterations done by me:

- bunny hat from a bunny costume;
- black jacket taken in from a ladies small to fit kids 7/8 and embellished with white stitching to highlight the lapels;
- red wool vest embellished with black stitching to highlight the shape;
- yellow shirt;
- grey yoga pants made into shorts with a cuff;
- a pocket watch from a round purse with creative safety pinning;
- a bowtie from a hair barrette.

The white tights were the only thing new.

My other daughter was Alice, from a store bought costume. I did had to make a hair-band for her from a wide black hair-band and the bow from a hair barrette glued on.

The girls came in first place.

The skirt of this Butterfly Ballerina Costume is several layers of tulle with some feather butterflies sewn on. The hair is 3 combs with butterflies hot glued to wire about 10 per comb.

I sewed some more butterflies to a ribbon and made a finger loop at each end and then wrapped them around the arms.

I found the wand at a florist and it just seemed perfect so I bought it.

My homemade Rose petal Fairy costume is the coolest ever, here's why...

My name is Elizabeth, I am a mother of 3 children - 2 boys Jordan aged 10 years and Willow aged 7 1/2 years and a little girl Ruby just turned 1 years... I live in beautiful country South Australia on the Yorke Peninsula. Recently I have been interested in costume making after watching The Martha Stewart show. So I decided to try making my own...

I made a homemade rose petal fairy costume, I made this costume for my daughter Ruby she is one yrs old. I got my inspiration from all the beautiful flowers and plants that grow here in Harvest season and spring.

It took me about a month to make and design, the main trouble I had was fraying on the edges of the material and I solved that by washing the fabric once. I'd cut the shapes I wanted and then I sewed them and glued them in place. I also used a fabric spray I think it was called - Craft Smart Fray Stop, it works great and it's not expensive.

I was very pleased with my first attempt at sewing and costume making that I will continue to make more, I hope you like my homemade rose petal fairy costume as I know my daughter, family and I all do.

Hi my name is Brad from SirBrad's Horror FX, and I design life-sized movie quality costumes of horror icons. I specialize in Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Madman Marz, Jeepers Creepers, Terminator, Leatherface, and many more! I have been featured on DVDS and the official F13th website several times now. I grew up on horror movies and I started making Jason and Myers costumes in the early 80's as a kid, and now today I design costumes for people worldwide! I have done more Jasons than any other costume so far, as he was always my favorite overall. I have been designing costumes at this level for about 3 years now, and this year things have really picked up!

One of my favorite looks for Jason is from Friday The 13th part 7 (The New Blood) where Jason battles Tina who has telekinesis,(which allows her to manipulate objects by thought). This is also the most requested costume from all of my customers who hire me to make one as a commission, probably because it looks so cool with all the rotten body parts and ribs/spine etc. It is also the hardest and most time consuming to make! I decided to start making costumes like these because I got tired of all the cheap looking, crappy, mass-produced costumes in stores. It took me a lot of trial and error to get to the level I am at now. With my first one I ordered a Rubies costume and cut out all the parts from the clothes, I then repainted them with acrylic paint and attached velcro straps.

I also repainted the mask to match, and got an extra one to cut the face out of to use as an underhood, which is easier to breath and see out of. I also got the idea to buy some generic skeleton gloves, which were just white latex bones attached to a black sleeve, and I created my own custom rotted skeleton hands by adding latex, toilet tissue, cotton, oatmeal, acrylic paint, and gloss. They turned out great! I also got some plastic Halloween chains and repainted them to look rusty and more realistic.

I bought the shirts and pants from the thrift store and began to shred them up with various tools, knives, scissors, wire brushes, etc, and tried to match all the cuts by pausing the DVD and watching it literally hundreds of times. After that I use acrylic paints watered down, and some mixed with 50% latex to paint the latex pieces, and paint the clothes up to look like they were naturally decayed, dirty, and filthy from the grave. Sometimes I add cobwebs for part 6 "Jason Livess." I then put on all the latex parts and match up all the clothes cuts, and do final touch ups while on my mannequin. I then posted pics on horror forums and everyone loved them, and begin asking me if I sold them etc, and then it became a part-time job for me. I also a local celebrity every Halloween and I take part in a lot of Halloween events and will every event each year, either 1 place, scariest, or best overall. I love doing the parades outdoors since it is less hot wearing all that latex. I also paint up hockey masks now as well. I used to just buy the hockey mask online to save time. Sometimes I also add mesh to the eyeholes of the hockey mask for certain parts, part 6-9 etc. I aslo made my own axes out of a real wooden handle and thick cardboard, which look real even in daylight! That is bascially it for this New Blood Jason Voorhees Costume.

One video of about 4 of the costume:

You can see tons more pics on my site... and here's my Youtube channel...

We love Elvis so it was only natural to dress our son up like this when he was a baby.

Items Used: White Jumpsuit, Gold and White Shiny Fabric, Gold Squeeze Paint, Velcro, White Sneakers, Aviator Sunglasses.

I just ripped the hems out of the legs and arms and inserted triangle shaped pieces of gold fabric. Then I cut a cape shape out of the gold and white fabric and sewed it together almost like a pillow case with the gold on the inside and the white on the back (I don?t sew often and had no idea what I was doing but it worked). I then attached it to the jumpsuit with Velcro across the shoulders so that it could easily be taken off.

With the left over gold fabric I made a belt and made it connect with another piece of Velcro. After it was assembled I made little gold dots all over the jumpsuit, cape and tennis shoes to resemble sequins.

That is about it. The homemade baby Elvis costume was a great hit!!!

These Crayon Costume Ideas we did last year based on this website.

We did it one day before the party, so its very easy. We basically bought some fabric and cut in to tube top dresses and then cut out the logo and the squiggles at the top from black felt, also, we did the hats with the same fabric with a peace of paper.

IT WAS A HIT! Was a really fun experience.
