My husband and I wanted to do something creative, yet classic, as we live in historic Salem, MA. These homemade Frankenstein & his bride costumes were a huge hit with everyone of all ages! We got stopped all throughout the night for photos.

For Frankenstein, I bought a black blazer from a local thrift store that was a size or two too small for my husband (so that the arms were short on him, since Frankenstein?s clothes didn?t fit his large frame), a plain navy blue t-shirt, and he wore black pants and black shoes that he already owned (he wore them hiked up a bit so that they were short). We bought black hair spray and the green and black makeup, along with the prosthetic bolts for his neck at a local Halloween costume shop. I printed some photos of Frankenstein from the internet, and a friend of ours used them to recreate his makeup and hairline (don?t forget to make a widow?s peak with the black spray!) Total cost was approximately $20-$25.

For Frankenstein?s bride, I bought a used wedding dress (yes, it?s real!) on eBay, some white shoes from Payless, and the wig and white makeup from a local costume store. Again, I printed a few pictures of Frankenstein?s bride from the internet and recreated her ?look? with my makeup, using black eyeliner to draw the stitches and dark red lipstick for the lips. Total cost was approximately $35-$45.

Overall a very easy Do It Yourself costume that was a lot of fun?we can?t wait to wear them again in a few years!

These Spock and Kirk Star Trek Couple Costumes were a big hit, everybody loved them, and the best part was that they were simple! The shirts were Champion DuoDry long-sleeved athletic shirts that I added 1 ? in. black elastic to the neck to create the higher collar. I used fabric glue to attach the elastic. I also used fabric glue to attach silver ribbon stripes around the sleeves. I printed the Star Trek insignia (that I found on-line) on iron-on transfer paper then used metallic silver paint and black Sharpie on it after it was ironed on to make it more visible and so that it would stand out.

The pants were just black pants made of a stretchy fabric (they were girls pants, but the boys didn't mind for the costume). Black boots and Star Trek toys (tri-corder and phaser) completed the costume. I used black elastic to make the utility belt for the tri-corder and phaser.

Of course Spock would not be complete without "the ears", so I purchased elf ear tips online from a costume company. The ears were put on with special glue (available at Halloween stores) and I used make-up to shade them and blend them in to his skin. I used liquid pen eyeliner to draw in Spock's eyebrows and black mascara on his hair (everyone was surprised that it was his real hair- just had to comb it forward, trimmed the front a bit and trimmed his sideburns at an angle, once the water-proof black mascara was in, his hair didn't budge!)

My two friends who were dating, decided on a Cosmo and Wanda Couple Costume from Fairly Odd Parents.

It was not only a very cute, fun idea, but also a very inexpensive one. All they did was buy pink and green spray on hair dye, and a package of wings with wands included. They took yellow construction paper and made stars for the wands and crowns for their heads.

Overall, it was a huge hit!

My two sons are currently obsessed with the movie Monster's Inc so my mom and I decided to make them Sulley and Mike Wazowski costumes. For both costumes we used fleece fabric. We matched the colors as close as we could but Sulley's purple spots were hard to find. We ended up using fabric paint and different sized circle stencils to make the spots.

We simply sponge painted them on and let it dry before we cut the fabric. Neither of us are super experienced so we used patterns to guide us in the overall construction of the outfits. For Sulley we used a dragon costume pattern and Mike we used a pumpkin pattern. We altered each one to get them to look like the characters. We used felt for most of the facial features. We also found a plastic hard hat at the local party store and spray painted it blue.
Then we constructed the Monster?s Inc symbol out of felt and hot glued it to the hat. For Mike, I was really lucky to be able to find a shirt and a pair of pants close in color to wear under the costume. They were from the girls department but he will never know.

My sons we super excited to dress up as their favorite characters. I love to call them my little monsters so this Monster's Inc Couple Costume suited them well. Happy Halloween!!

When we started with the idea for Beaker and Doctor Bunsen Couple Costume, we wanted something that was different but also a throw back from our childhood. I had an idea as to how to do Beaker. Bunsen on the other hand was a little more complex to put together for his head.

We started with pictures from the internet of what the actual characters look like. For Beaker, we started with a roll of ? inch foam that we measured around my boyfriend's head, who was wearing the costume. We gave it about ? inch extra for breathing room. Next we used spray glue to glue on the fleshy colored fabric because the foam was green. Then we used a piece of cardboard around the head to make a topper to hold the hair in.

We hot glued the orange hair, which was in expensive wig from a costume shop and then hot glued the back seam of the foam together to make a cylinder. We then cut out a moon shape for the mouth and glued black felt on the inside of the mouth. We also glued a red see through fabric on the inside of the head so you could see through, without seeing your face. We then glued on large googly eyes onto the round Styrofoam eyeballs and glued them onto the head. Then we used orange felt and sewed together a round shape nose and stuffed it with stuffing. To keep the head on, we sewed bra straps on the head like football straps to keep the head steady because it was a little wobbly since it was heavier because of the hair.

For Dr.Bunsen, we used the ready made rolls of plaster and put this on a blow up punch ball that you can get in any toy section of a store. Once the plaster dries, you pop the balloon so it deflates. Then we sanded it down a little to keep it smooth. Using an extra-large stretchy shirt that we bought in the store, we stretched the green fabric over the head. We stitched on some ears and added a chin and a nose. The glasses we cut from ? balsa wood and painted black because there were no glasses that we could find that were big enough to fit Bunsen?s head. On the inside of his head, we stuffed it with some foam, so that it was soft inside & didn?t wobble.

The mouth was cut using an exacto-knife and a screen was placed in the front where the mouth is.
Then we went to a scrubs store and got doctors lab coats and a thrift store for two large shirts and ties.

The total cost of both costumes was about $150 together and was definitely worth it.
It was a great costume to wear and peoples reactions were priceless.
